By Gladiator contributor Elishia K.: nurse, DIYer, woman of the house
I’m a neonatal nurse practitioner who loves to travel, drink wine and spend lots of time with my family. At home, I call my laundry room my “woman cave” — its cleanliness and functionality put me at peace and make laundry feel less like a chore. When my husband and I decided to move back to our home state of Michigan three years ago, I made a point of asking the contractor building our house to combine the walk-in closet and laundry room into one.
A Laundry Room for It All
I wanted a multifunctional space that could keep up with our busy lives and still look clean and welcoming. To start, I set a budget of $5,000 for the room but secretly hoped it wouldn’t cost that much. I received an estimate from a custom kitchen store for over $8,000! I checked a furniture retailer next and found material cost and installation would be around $4,000. Finally, I looked into Gladiator brand and found exactly what I wanted for half the price of anyone else.
From Dream Home to Clean Home
In addition to an organized laundry room, I needed more space for cleaning products, coats, bags and shoes. Plus, an area for our dog’s crate and food was a must. The room is a decent size, but not huge, so it was a challenge to fit it all in. With my dad’s help, I was able to assemble and install everything in only a few hours!
Elishia’s Tip: Before you start, plan out the placement of the GearTrack® Channels for the whole room. Mark all the studs at once for quick installation.
We started by mounting three Premier Pre-Assembled 30″ Wall GearBoxes to the walls on GearTrack® Channels. The GearBoxes are great for storing all my supplies while cleaning up the clutter. From there, I placed the Clean-Up Caddy above the utility sink for soap and paper towels and the Wire Shelf over the washer for holding detergent. Then, I added the 6′ Wide Adjustable Height Hardwood Workbench that I use for folding clothes. Plus, the Premier Pre-Assembled Modular GearDrawer and Premier Pre-Assembled Modular GearBox fit perfectly underneath the workbench for extra storage for all our shoes and other DIY materials.
My favorite thing about my new Gladiator® products is that everything’s modular. If I ever want to reorganize the room, it’ll be easy, because unlike cabinets or a countertop nothing is permanently installed. Plus, it’s a breeze to move around all the different hooks I use on the GearTrack® Channels based on what I’m using them for at the time.
We’ve used Gladiator® products in our garage in the past and loved them. They didn’t fail to impress me yet again in my laundry room. I like that it’s bright, neat and organized — everything has a place! Next project on my list: master closet organization!
