Auction Action and Custom Classics for Every Garage

By Blase Mnich, Interactive Brand Writer

High stakes, big money, expensive cars, and fast-talking — the Barrett-Jackson Auction is pulling into Palm Beach, Florida this weekend. Featuring classics, customs and rare finds, the World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction returns to Palm Beach to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the South Florida Fairgrounds and I’m excited to see all the cars I’ll never be able to afford.

With hundreds of amazing rides up for auction, car collectors and aficionados alike have a lot to marvel at this weekend. From vintage finds like the National Corvette Museum exhibited ’57 Vette Convertible, to the chrome custom RENNtech Mercedes-Benz SL600 auctioned off for charity for $155,000, the Barrett-Jackson Auction will definitely pique the interest of most motor mavens, whether they have the bank account to participate or not.

Owning a crazy custom or classic may not be a realistic goal for all auto-enthusiasts out there. But, just because you don’t own a Barrett-Jackson car doesn’t mean you can’t have a garage worthy of one. CONTINUE READING

Remembering Dan Wheldon

By Matt Orlando, Brand Creative Writer

Gone. 2-time (and current) Indy 500 winner. 33 years old. Gone. In a matter of seconds.

The horrific 15-car crash in Las Vegas that took Dan Wheldon’s life on the racetrack was one of the worst in IndyCar history.

It wasn’t but a few months ago, we watched as he won the Indy 500—smiling, holding his two-year-old son after the victory.

Dan Wheldon #98 at Indy Motor Speedway 2011That’s how most will remember Dan Wheldon. A happy guy who rolled along with life’s ups and downs. Ups, like winning the 2011 Indy 500. Downs, like not having a sponsor the day after the race. CONTINUE READING

Ready for Old Man Winter?

By Blase Mnich, Interactive Brand Writer

Ok, I’ll admit it. Now may be a little early to be talking about winterizing. Even just thinking about winter gives me the chills, and it’s August. But it’s not too early to start getting things ready for the colder months ahead, or at least to start thinking about them. Plus, I’m a car guy. Winterizing my car gives me an excuse to blow more money on it without feeling too guilty. Win-win.

Indy 500 Gladiator Style

By Laurie Lesauskis, Gladiator brand marketing specialist

Well, I just finished my first Indy 500 and I have to say it truly is an iconic American experience. If you haven’t gone, you have to go once, even if you can’t tell the difference between a piston and a pineapple.

Because it was the 100th anniversary of the date of the Indy 500 (not to be confused with the 100th running of the Indy 500) the crowds were humungous. The town of Speedway that surrounds the racetrack became one big party. CONTINUE READING

The Garage of the Future

By: Blase Mnich, Interactive Brand Writer

Although cars have come a long way since the days of hand-cranked starts and wooden-spoked wheels, we haven’t quite reached the retro-future the innovators of that era predicted for us.

The turn of the millennium was filled with many disappointments for the tech-Nostradamuses of the twentieth century, with the threat of learning to fly a car being about as real as people moving to the Moon and Y2K. And even though the world of the Jetsons is about as believable as any cartoon, automotive technology is really taking off and reaching new heights, only not literally just yet. CONTINUE READING

SOMETHING TO LOVE, EVEN IN FEBRUARY

By: Blase Mnich, Interactive Brand Writer

Despite the myriad of boxed chocolates, red rose bouquets and heart-shaped candy, February can be a heartless month for the people of the Midwest, especially car enthusiasts.

With the recent third-biggest blizzard ever to be recorded dropping 20-plus inches of snow over one night, Chicago is definitely not feeling the love from Old Man Winter.

Cruisin’ or Dreamin’

By Lou Ann Schafer, Sr. Marketing Manager

There was plenty of both going on at the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. Our Gladiator® team packed up and headed for Royal Oak in the Detroit area last Friday to set up a great display of Gladiator® products along with two sweet rides we had with us.

One was our OCC built Chopper and the other a 1979 Camaro Z28. Even though it rained, we had a steady stream (no pun intended) of traffic to our tent. Couldn’t tell if they were really wanting to see the Gladiator® display or just get some relief from the steady drizzle that was coming down. Either way, we were busy. CONTINUE READING
