Back-to-school season is an exciting time of the year. There are new friends to be made, new teachers to meet and new things to be learned. But there are also a lot of things to take care of before the big first day.
Books, school supplies, clothing — the list of back-to-school necessities seems endless. But the bigger question is, “what do you do once you get all of that stuff?” Getting organized for school is as important as homework, studying and having an awesome lunch.
The following organization tips are ways to make your kids’ journey back to school easier on them — and you. Because, after all, going back to school is hard on both kids and parents.
Okay, so you bought your kids all of their pencil cases, books and folders. They’re all set for class with their new outfits and backpacks on, but are they ready for the school year? The real challenge is making sure your kids stay organized week in and week out. Keep everything organized, from book bags and lunch boxes, to jackets and shoes with a backpack station or school zone. Hooks and accessories mated with wall systems are a simple way to create a zone that organizes all your kids’ needs, either in their bedroom or in the mudroom. That way, they can quickly get started on their homework or get ready to head out the door in the morning.
Now that you’ve got the core school supplies down, it’s time to tackle the extra-curricular activities. School is about more than just math problems and book reports. More and more, kids are getting involved in sports at a competitive level very early on. Get organized for school sports season by setting up a sport zone in the garage, basement or closet. Keep cleats, uniforms and equipment all in one organized place. That way, your kids will spend less time gathering equipment and more time practicing, training or doing homework.
Back to Campus
Your kids are off to college, starting the next chapter in their lives. You’ve prepared them for this big step, and now it’s time to prepare yourself for the next chapter in your life. With them gone, and the extra space and time on your hands, it’s a perfect time for new adventures. Reorganize the garage and the other spaces your kids may have dwelled in before, and turn them into a venue where you can pursue new adventures or hobbies.
This year, help them prepare and help yourself by getting organized. Your kids will thank you when they have less to worry about, in turn relieving you of stress. How do you get your kids ready for back to school season?
