On Nostalgia and Rack Shelving

By Nick Light, PR Pro

When I was a youngster, I used to go to my grandparents’ house before and after school while my parents were at work. I have many fond memories of those days, and my grandmother’s homemade applesauce played no small role in the formation of those memories. But it was in my grandfather’s garage that the hours flew by.

My grandfather always had a keen eye for antique furniture. After they both retired, he and my grandmother would go from garage sale to garage sale, buying well-used but valuable antique furniture in need of some TLC. My grandfather would then take this furniture back to his big garage by the lake and meticulously repair each piece, selling them in his own annual garage sale for quite the profit.

Just as my grandfather was meticulous in his purchasing and repairing these antiques, he was meticulous about the organization of his garage by the lake. Rows of rack shelving lined the garage, each section holding different pieces of furniture grouped together by stage of repair: the just-purchased furniture shelf, the structurally-repaired furniture shelf, the sanded furniture shelf and the finished furniture shelf. Those sturdy (and probably handmade) rack shelving units were invaluable to my grandfather’s enterprise, and I always remember being awe-struck by the sawdust-smelling rows.

Now Gladiator GarageWorks® has introduced rack shelving of its own. Never mind that these things can hold 2,000 pounds per shelf and are stamped with Gladiator brand’s signature Tread Plate pattern to match your other Gladiator products. The point here is that the versatility of rack shelving is undeniable. Whether you’re a DIY-er like my grandfather, a gardener, a boat enthusiast or just a busy homeowner, Gladiator Rack Shelving is a simple, durable storage solution for your garage, mudroom or basement.

I think I’ll pick some up now and relive the wonders of my childhood spent in my grandfather’s garage.

His secret superpower is that he can play many musical instruments, regardless of his proximity to a garage.
